PRESS RELEASE

Sonatrach and Anadarko, acting on behalf of participants in the Algerian petroleum project El Merk, have opted for the OPIDIS software package in order to create a unified document database and to give users and administrators of the operation site a portal providing access to data and technical documents.

Rennes, December 15, 2010

ARTESYS International, French publisher of the OPIDIS software package - developed for the electronic management of technical documents and adapted to the business needs peculiar to the exploitation of industrial sites - has been chosen to set up a unified and coherent technical information system, which is essential for launching the activities of the
El Merk project.

The El Merk site, located in the Berkine Basin in Algeria, is being exploited by the Algerian national company Sonatrach and the American Anadarko Petroleum Corp. group. According to the project, the exploitation and bringing in of the site are expected to begin in 2011.

A large-scale project
In March 2009, Sonatrach and its partner Anadarko acting on behalf of the participants in the Algerian petroleum project El Merk (ConocoPhillips, Eni, Maersk and Talisman) signed EPC contracts to carry out oil and LPG refining works.

These contracts involve several world-renowned petroleum players such as Petrofac, ABB/SARPI/Petrojet and even Siemens.

Once the installations have been set up for the El Merk project, they will enable the treatment of 135 000 bbl/day of petroleum, 55 000 bbl/day of condensate and 30 000 bbl/day of LPG.

Two main challenges relating to the information system
During the implementation of the information system, two dominant challenges were swiftly identified:

1- Taking advantage of a unified technical information system that has been built from different deliverables from each EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contract.

2- Possessing a coherent and easy-to-use information system that allows browsing through the document database, while enabling access to technical data managed by a CMMS/EAM or allowing browsing through 2D plans and 3D models to view all equipment.

Another important parameter to ensure that the project runs smoothly – the provisioning of this information system soonest possible, that is, even before the installations begin, in order to guarantee the coherence of the document database and to provide training to future users.
Thanks to its expertise in document management, its knowledge of industrial environments and not least thanks to its performance and the reliability of its solutions based on the OPIDIS software package, ARTESYS International was chosen for this project.

As such, from 2011 onwards, ARTESYS International will operate in Algeria to deploy OPIDIS and to create the unified document database using deliverables from the difference EPCs (plans, diagrams, vendor documents, procedures, 3D models, etc), but also to provide users and administrators of the operation site with an intuitive portal for access to data and technical documents.

The project will bring together more than 200 OPIDIS users, who will thus benefit from quick and simplified access to technical information that is truly reliable and relevant.

“Apart from getting a new sales reference to add to the references that we currently have in Algeria, this project matches the ambition of ARTESYS International, which has made known its desire to develop its activities and indicates new short- and long-term projects in Nothern Africa, via its network of local partners” explained Daniel Coquelin, CEO of ARTESYS International.
